Referees & Match Officials

When taking charge of a match, you should do all you reasonably can to reduce or eliminate loss, damage or injury to others.

If someone suffers an injury it may be alleged that you are responsible as the person in control of the match and you may be required to pay compensation if it is found that you are legally liable.

To protect you, as an affiliated referee or official, your affiliation to England Touch entitles you to the following insurance protection:

  • Public Liability: £5m Limit of Indemnity
  • Professional Indemnity: £5m Limit of Indemnity

Cover is operative for referees and match officials working at any England Touch club or competition.

Medical Volunteers

Health professional support to touch is essential and skilled medical personnel play a vital role in ensuring the safety and welfare of players.

As a health care or allied health professional, it is often a requirement of your professional registration body that you maintain indemnity cover for all the work that you undertake, including voluntary work. This would usually be covered via you membership to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, for example.

The ETA policy does not extend to include medical malpractice liability as this indemnity will be provided via your professional registration body. The ETA's Public Liability does provide cover for invidividuals (coaches, referees etc. including health care and professional medical personnel) who provide first aid in the event of an emergency.
